Monday goodies: Flame skimmers

Flame skimmers are one of my very favorite dragonflies, and that's saying something. For something so striking, so exotically gorgeous, they sure are accessible. Here, some recent shots, including a couple new ones:

They're just ludicrously beautiful, right?

Happy Monday, everyone.

I always feel a little lame for liking a dragonfly that is SO common in Arizona as much as I do, but they're so beautiful I can't help it! Plus, they just sit there and let you photograph them, which is really awesome. Love the photos!

Any chance you'll make it to Tucson Saturday for the Arizona Insect Festival? It's going to be pretty huge!

That's my point exactly. I know they're common, and sometimes they're my "back-up" insect when the 12-spots or whatever won't sit still. But they're so amazingly gorgeous, and so accommodating.

I'm going to try my darndest to make it to the festival. It sounds awesome!

Yea! Well, if you do make it, I'll be in the insect zoo area manning the aquatic insects with my advisor and another volunteer. Be sure to say hi if you come!
